Lucy Stuart Clark

About the artist

b. 1987 teaches ceramics at St Cyprians School for Girls in Cape Town. Lucy holds an BFA (cum laude) from Rhodes University specialising in printmaking and a MPhil VA (cum laude) from the University of Stellenbosch, specialising in illustration.

She has illustrated 2 children’s books, My Great Expedition published in 2017 and Princess Pink Rose and White Muley, published in 2019. In 2013 Table Mountain’s Holiday, written and illustrated by Stuart Clark was published.

In all this activity, Stuart Clark finds the time to energetically pursue her imaginative and inventive creativity, so evident in the flawless outcome of her technical superiority and controlled skill in the pottery she makes. Much of her finished product is the result of her whimsical and fanciful intellectual process. Every item she produces, demands time and concentration from the viewer to absorb the richness of thought, the inevitable touches of humour and the exquisite beauty of the outcome. Her production all become collectors’ items, unique and timeless and to be handed on from one generation to the next.

Apart from her pottery output, Stuart Clark is a master print maker and illustrator. Her fantasy and quirky humour are to be found in the imagery within the compositions, tales that leave the ending open to personal interpretation. Always present, is her technical skill and control, making for complete satisfactory viewing and engagement with the images.
